Police deny smuggling names of politicians into academy admission list

The Force Headquarters has firmly refuted an online report alleging that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, inserted names from the National Assembly into the Police Academy admission list.

In a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, the report—published on November 10, 2025—was described as a “barefaced lie” and a “deliberate attempt to mislead Nigerians and tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force and its leadership.”

The statement reaffirmed that the admission process for the 2025/2026 academic session at the Nigeria Police Academy remains transparent, merit-driven, and fully compliant with due process. According to the Force, 370 candidates were admitted—ten from each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)—strictly on merit, with no state receiving preferential treatment.

While admitting that individuals or organizations may recommend candidates, the Force stressed that such recommendations do not influence or override the merit-based selection procedure.

Challenging the online medium’s credibility, the Police urged it to “produce a single verifiable name from the approved list that fails to meet the stipulated admission criteria.”

The Force further warned the platform to desist from spreading false and malicious information, cautioning that continued misinformation could prompt legal action, including defamation proceedings.

Finally, the Nigeria Police Force advised the public to disregard the publication in its entirety.
