The Oyo State Police Command has uncovered a major human trafficking operation in Ibadan, the state capital, rescuing 84 victims—including a child—from captivity.

Acting on intelligence, officers raided a building in the Orogun area of the city where the victims were being held against their will. According to preliminary investigations, the victims are believed to be nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo, allegedly lured to Nigeria under the false promise of employment.

Further reports indicate the traffickers extorted large sums of money—reportedly in U.S. dollars—from the victims’ families as part of the elaborate scam.

All rescued individuals are currently in protective custody at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, as investigations continue to uncover the full scope of the operation.
