Two farm attendants and eight others were on Monday, May 18, arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing 628 chickens valued at N4.3 million.

The primary suspects, Ibrahim Yalmi (23) and Samuel David (24), are accused of stealing the poultry from V Tees Farm, located in the Badeku area of Ibadan, where they were employed as attendants.

Also arraigned were Kurewen Amadi (29), Paul Gagiso (35), Afose Assogbari (30), Monica John (28), Cecilia Philip (30), Tusen Jebete (50), Hannah Dele (25), and John Agosu (28). All ten defendants face charges of conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property.

According to the prosecution counsel, Inspector Adeshina Folaranmi, the alleged theft occurred between June 2024 and May 2025. He told the court that the eight additional defendants knowingly purchased the stolen chickens from Yalmi and David at prices far below market value.

Folaranmi stated that the charges violate Sections 516, 390(9), and 427 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

All defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Oluwabusayo Osho, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N2 million, with two sureties in like amount. One surety must have N2 million in a verifiable bank account, while the other must be a relative sharing the same surname as the defendant.

The case was adjourned until June 4, 2025, for hearing.
