The mayor of Novorossiysk, a strategic Russian port city on the Black Sea, declared a state of emergency on Saturday, May 3, after a Ukrainian drone strike reportedly damaged a grain terminal and several residential buildings, leaving five people injured.
Andrei Kravchenko, the city’s mayor, shared video footage on his official Telegram channel, showing shattered windows, damaged balconies, and debris scattered outside apartment buildings. One car was crushed beneath rubble, and significant structural damage was evident across three residential buildings. Kravchenko confirmed that one woman, in critical condition, had been hospitalized, and local officials reported that two children were among the injured.
Veniamin Kondratyev, the governor of the Krasnodar region, stated that debris from the downed drones hit three storage facilities at the city’s grain terminal, igniting a fire. Thankfully, no casualties were reported at the terminal.
Delo Group, the owner of the damaged facility, confirmed that the fire had been extinguished and cleanup operations were ongoing. The company also assured that its DeloPorts terminals remained operational, following the protocols and directives from local authorities.
There was no immediate comment from Ukraine regarding the attack. However, Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched a large-scale assault overnight, deploying 183 drones and two ballistic missiles.
