In February 2024, the government had introduced flexible working conditions, allowing some staff, particularly junior cadres, to work from home for three days a week while reporting to the office for two days. Senior staff, however, continued reporting to the office daily.
This adjustment was made to alleviate the impact of the petrol subsidy removal by the Federal Government amid economic challenges.
The decision to end the work-from-home arrangement was announced in a circular issued on Tuesday, February 11, by the office of the Head of Service (HoS). The circular, signed by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, was titled “Cancellation of the Work from Home Initiative in the Lagos State Public Service.” It noted that the cancellation follows the implementation of the new minimum wage by the state government.
The circular read in part: “Following the implementation of the New Minimum Wage in the State Public Service and other measures to enhance the welfare and well-being of public servants in Lagos State, it is hereby notified that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved the cancellation of the work-from-home initiative in the Lagos State Public Service.”
The circular further stated: “The cancellation of the work-from-home initiative, which had been in effect since February 2024, will take effect from March 31, 2025.”
It concluded by urging public servants to fully dedicate themselves to their duties and ensure better service delivery in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
