Shehu Sani Alleges El-Rufai and Amaechi Are Architects of Banditry and Hunger

Senator Shehu Sani has accused former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi of lacking the moral authority to criticize President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asserting that they played significant roles in the rise of banditry and economic hardship currently affecting Nigeria.

The ex-Kaduna Central lawmaker condemned El-Rufai and Amaechi for what he called hypocrisy and political self-interest, dismissing their recent criticisms of Tinubu’s policies on poverty and hunger as insincere.

“El-Rufai and Amaechi should bow their heads in shame. They are the architects of the banditry, poverty, and hunger they now pretend to lament,” Sani said. “During their time in office, they failed to address these issues. Now that they’ve been sidelined in the current administration, they are crying foul.”

While acknowledging that government criticism is legitimate, Sani emphasized that it should stem from genuine concern rather than personal disappointment, warning that politically motivated attacks can be harmful.

He also took aim at former officials from the Buhari administration who, after being excluded from President Tinubu’s cabinet, are allegedly undermining the current government.

“These individuals controlled the country’s affairs for eight years. They had the power, resources, and influence to transform the North into a socio-economic model but left it in a worse state,” Sani said.

Highlighting security gains, Sani pointed to improvements along Birnin Gwari road—previously notorious for bandit attacks—and noted Southern Kaduna is relatively peaceful under the current military leadership. While he admitted insecurity persists in parts of the North, such as Katsina and Zamfara, he insisted the situation has improved.

He urged President Tinubu to redouble efforts to tackle insecurity in the North and remain receptive to constructive criticism, provided it is not motivated by political bitterness.
