Gunmen, believed to be armed robbers, have killed two police officers at the Kolere Police Outpost in Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Reports indicate that the incident took place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, when DSP Jantuku Philibus, the officer in charge of the outpost, went to arrest a suspect. The suspect and his gang ambushed the officer, resulting in his death.

It was also reported that DSP Philibus managed to kill one of the armed robbers before he was overpowered and killed after sustaining multiple injuries.

This attack follows a similar incident in late January 2025, where DSP Ali Pindar, also stationed at the Kolere Police Out-Post, was killed by a gang. According to sources, DSP Pindar had previously arrested a high-profile gang leader, who was later transferred to the Damagum Divisional Police Headquarters and granted bail. Upon his release, the suspect organized a group of armed robbers who attacked and killed the officer, while an inspector was injured in the assault.

The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident, stating that the officers were overpowered by the suspects and their gang during the attempted arrest.
