A 40-year-old man, Emmanuel Nwedu, was arraigned before Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court 11 on Tuesday, May 27, for allegedly killing his uncle and drinking his blood.
Nwedu, who is facing a charge of murder, had no legal representation, and his plea was not taken by the court.
According to Senior State Counsel Emmanuel Alo, the incident occurred on May 24 in Ugboenyim, Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Alo stated that Nwedu allegedly struck the victim, Godwin Nwedu, on the forehead with a stick, leading to his death.
The offence is said to be punishable under Section 329 (1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State, 2009.
Following the submission of the case file, the prosecution requested that the defendant be remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre in Abakaliki.
Chief Magistrate Chinedu Agama granted the request and ordered Nwedu’s remand. He also directed that the case be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further action.
The matter was adjourned to June 11 for a compliance report.
