Tajudeen Baruwa on Monday, March 23, took control of the national secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), effectively removing Musiliu Akinsanya as the union’s president.

The move comes after a prolonged leadership crisis, which intensified as Baruwa and his supporters assumed control of the secretariat in Abuja.

Baruwa said the action was in line with court rulings that recognised him as the legitimate leader of the union, insisting it was not a forceful takeover but the enforcement of legal judgments following a lengthy dispute.

He added that security agencies had been properly informed and provided with copies of the court decisions ahead of the takeover.

The leadership struggle between Baruwa and MC Oluomo has persisted for some time, with several legal battles determining control of the union. Recent rulings by the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal have reinforced Baruwa’s position as the recognised president.
