Again, Court Stops PDP From Holding National Convention

The Federal High Court in Abuja has once again stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its planned National Convention, originally scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The convention was meant to elect new national officers to steer the party’s affairs.

The order followed an ex-parte application filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, through his counsel, Jephthah Njikonye (SAN), seeking an interim injunction to suspend the convention pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice.

Delivering his ruling on Tuesday, November 11, Justice Peter Lifu held that the application had merit and warranted the court’s intervention. He therefore restrained the PDP from proceeding with the convention until the substantive suit is heard and determined.

The court also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring or recognising the proposed convention pending the resolution of Lamido’s case.

Justice Lifu noted that Lamido, being a bona fide member of the PDP with an interest in the position of national chairman, would suffer greater harm if the injunction were not granted.

He further stated that there was no reason to deviate from the earlier ruling of Justice James Omotosho, delivered on October 31, 2025, which had similarly halted the PDP’s planned national convention and restrained INEC from participating in or recognising it.
