Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that Liverpool’s Premier League title win left him deeply disappointed, revealing he felt the loss “big time” and could only bring himself to watch a small portion of their celebrations.
Liverpool, under Arne Slot, secured the title in emphatic fashion last weekend with a 5-1 victory over Tottenham, clinching the trophy with four games to spare.
When asked how it felt to miss out on the title, Arteta was candid: “Yeah, big time. It hurt in my tummy. I understand it’s a team that’s been more consistent and has all the ingredients needed to win it—but it’s very painful, yes.”
Despite the disappointment, Arteta was gracious in defeat, praising Liverpool’s performance throughout the season.
“I take the opportunity to congratulate Liverpool for what they’ve achieved—their management, their consistency. They fully deserve it. They were the better team, with so many qualities and a stable squad. We’ll try again, but for now, we need to finish this season strongly.”
Reflecting on Liverpool’s celebrations, Arteta admitted it was difficult to watch. “I saw a small part of it. It’s painful, for sure. That kind of moment can be a source of motivation, but my drive comes from other places. Still, it hurts.”
