Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, and several Nigerian entertainers have mourned veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs, who died at the age of 84.
Jacobs’ death was announced by his family on Wednesday, September 16. His son, Olusoji Jacobs, described him as “The Lion of Lufodo” and urged bloggers and social media users to respect the family’s privacy.
Reacting to the news, Atiku described Jacobs as “an institution, a cultural icon and one of the finest ambassadors of our creative spirit.”
He said the actor’s distinctive voice, talent and decades-long career had made him part of the collective memory of generations of Nigerians, noting that Jacobs played a significant role in laying the foundation for the growth of Nollywood.
Keyamo also paid tribute to the late actor, describing him as a “consummate actor,” “quintessential professional,” “legend of the stage” and “perfect gentleman.”
Several entertainers, including Broda Shaggi, Funke Jenifa Akindele, Williams Uchemba, Bisola, Kunle Remi, Banky W, Deyemi Okanlawon, Femi Lazarus and Korty, also took to social media to mourn Jacobs.
They celebrated him as a legend and icon while offering prayers for comfort and strength for his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and the rest of his family.
