The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Shimite Love, Special Adviser to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export.
Shimite reportedly died in the early hours of Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Asaba, where she was rushed for medical attention.
According to preliminary reports, concerns were raised when Shimite’s maid contacted her elder brother, alleging that the husband had locked her inside the house all day. Upon receiving the call, her brother rushed to the residence, where he discovered Shimite unresponsive with foam coming out of her mouth. She was immediately taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Delta Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed her death and said an investigation is currently underway.

“She was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was taken,” Edafe said. “Her husband is currently in protective custody—not under arrest—for his own safety.”
According to Edafe, it was the husband who initially reported the death to the police, claiming he had been receiving threats from Shimite’s family and feared for his safety. “Based on this, officers were dispatched to his home and brought him in,” Edafe explained.
However, the situation took a new turn when Shimite’s family filed a formal complaint with the police, raising suspicions that her husband may have been involved in her death.
“We’ve begun a full investigation,” Edafe said. “At this stage, only an autopsy can conclusively determine whether the death was natural or the result of foul play.”
The police have assured the public that more details will be made available as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, members of Shimite’s family have accused her husband of isolating her from loved ones and exerting excessive control over her personal and professional life.
“Since he came into her life, he cut everyone off. Her brother couldn’t even visit. He wouldn’t let her go to the office and followed her everywhere,” a family source told Sahara Reporters. “Even all her properties in Abuja and elsewhere were reportedly changed to his name. We believe she was manipulated—maybe even hypnotised.”
The source added, “What woman in her right mind would allow her husband to control her life to that extent? He was always with her, locking her in, monitoring her movements. And anytime we tried to talk to her, she would just say, ‘Don’t worry, my husband is a pastor. He’s my spiritual father. He sees everything.’ It’s tragic. How does a special adviser to a state governor die like this?”
