
Former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36.
The announcement was made via his social media platforms, marking the end of a career that spanned over a decade and saw him play across multiple top-flight leagues around the world.
“After much thought and consideration, with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football,” Ideye wrote.
The Nigerian international last played for Enyimba FC, the nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions.
In his farewell message, Ideye expressed deep gratitude to God, his family, friends, agents, journalists, coaches, teammates, and the fans, including his time with the Nigerian national team, for their unwavering support throughout his career.
A Career Across Continents
Ideye first gained national attention as part of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles squad at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. He went on to earn 28 caps for the Super Eagles, scoring six goals.
His professional journey included stints in England, Turkey, Greece, Spain, and France, where he played for clubs such as West Bromwich Albion, Olympiacos, Dynamo Kyiv, Málaga, and Sochaux, among others.
Ideye was also a member of the Super Eagles team that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) under the late coach Stephen Keshi.
His retirement brings to a close a successful and eventful career that left a mark both at home and abroad.
