Manchester City have officially launched their pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. The Premier League leaders are close to agreeing personal terms with the England defender and have begun negotiations with the Eagles over a transfer fee.
Crystal Palace are reportedly seeking around £40 million for their skipper, who has just six months remaining on his contract. Had Guehi waited until the summer, he could have left as a free agent, forfeiting a significant signing-on fee.
City are understood to have made a substantial offer to the 25-year-old, promising to surpass any deal he might secure at the end of the season.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner blocked a last-minute deadline-day move to Liverpool last summer but has recently indicated he may be open to a sale this month.
The England international has also attracted interest from European giants Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. Liverpool came close to signing Guehi last year, with a £35 million deal collapsing on deadline day while the defender was undergoing a medical.
