Operatives from the Rumuji Division of the Rivers State Police Command have neutralized a suspected notorious kidnapper and murderer identified as David Uzoma Kamalu, also known as “M-Kaze.” The operation took place in the early hours of Tuesday, May 28, following days of intensive intelligence gathering.
In an official statement, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed that the operation began around 1:00 a.m. and was the result of sustained surveillance and intelligence-led efforts aimed at dismantling criminal syndicates in the region.
“During the operation, our officers were met with fierce armed resistance from members of the gang,” the statement read. “A gun battle ensued, during which M-Kaze was neutralized. Several of his accomplices managed to flee the scene with various degrees of gunshot wounds.”
A subsequent search of the gang’s hideout led to the recovery of key exhibits, including a pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, and several local charms believed to be used for protection and intimidation.
The police described M-Kaze as a high-value target and the leader of a notorious kidnapping syndicate. His criminal activities had long posed a serious threat to public safety. Due to the severity of his crimes, including the murder and beheading of a local security operative known as “Hunter Commander”—Mr. Alete—in January 2025, a bounty had been placed on his head by the former Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area.
M-Kaze was also linked to numerous high-profile kidnappings and armed robberies along the East-West Road, where his gang terrorized residents and commuters.
The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing gang members. The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals, particularly those with gunshot wounds, to the nearest security agency.
All recovered items have been documented and are being treated as critical evidence for ongoing investigations and possible prosecution.
