Russia’s Foreign Ministry has described Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s trip to Washington on Friday, February 28, as a political and diplomatic failure, accusing him of being fixated on continuing the war.

Zelenskiy and US President Donald Trump reportedly had a tense exchange during their White House meeting, straining the relationship between Kyiv and the United States, which has been Ukraine’s primary military supporter.

“The visit to Washington on February 28 represents a complete political and diplomatic failure of the Kyiv regime,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a statement released on Saturday.

Zakharova criticized Zelenskiy’s behavior at the White House, calling it “outrageously boorish” and labeling the Ukrainian president as a “cynic” whose primary goal was to retain power. She further accused Zelenskiy of undermining the opposition, creating a totalitarian state, and sending millions of citizens to their deaths in the pursuit of power.

During the meeting, Zelenskiy aimed to persuade the US not to align with Russian President Vladimir Putin and openly challenged Trump on his more lenient stance toward Russia.
