Sokoto Government Suspends Six Principals Over Insubordination

The Sokoto State Government has suspended six secondary school principals over allegations of insubordination and the unauthorised collection of fees related to Junior Secondary School examination results.

The suspension was announced by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Ahmad Ala, via a statement released through the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Iya.

“No principal or school administrator will be allowed to operate outside the law or take advantage of students and parents,” Ala stated. “Our schools must be guided by accountability and public service—not personal interest.”

According to the ministry, the affected principals are from:

* Nana Girls Secondary School
* Government Day Secondary School, Gagi
* Government Day Secondary School, Mana
* Giginya Memorial College
* Mana Basic Secondary School
* Government Day Secondary School, Silame

The principal of GDSS Silame was specifically cited for insubordination.

To further investigate the allegations, the commissioner has set up a five-member investigative committee chaired by Professor Mustapha Tukur. Other members include:

* The Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Examination Board
* The Director of Quality Assurance, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education
* The Director of Planning, Teachers Service Board
* The Director of Quality Assurance, Examination Board (serving as committee secretary)

All suspended principals have been directed to hand over administrative duties to their vice principals with immediate effect.

The ministry emphasized its commitment to upholding discipline, transparency, and accountability within the state’s public school system.
