South-East Governors in Active Talks with Authorities for Kanu’s Release — Gov. Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has addressed growing concerns that South-East governors have turned their backs on Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), asserting that regional leaders are actively engaged in efforts to secure his release.

Speaking during a media parley on Thursday night in Umuahia, Otti emphasized that behind-the-scenes engagements with relevant federal authorities are ongoing. He cautioned, however, that not all developments can be made public, as doing so could jeopardize the process.

“Some of the engagements and assurances we have received are not for public consumption, as they may derail the process,” Otti stated. “But you can take it for granted that, as his governor, I am at the forefront of ensuring he comes back home. All the South-East governors are united on this.”

The governor’s remarks come in response to a protest held earlier in the week by South-East elders at the Government House in Umuahia. The elders criticized regional political leaders for what they described as a lack of action in Kanu’s ongoing detention, and urged Governor Otti to take the lead in engaging directly with President Bola Tinubu.

Governor Otti expressed confidence that current efforts would eventually yield results.
