A joint security operation has successfully apprehended Mustakima Mohammed Ali, a wanted terror suspect implicated in the brutal killings of a police officer and two chiefs in Lamu County, Kenya, back in December 2019.

Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) head, Mohammed Amin, confirmed the arrest in an official statement released on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

According to the statement, Mustakima Ali, also known as Abu Mahir, was intercepted from a Malindi-bound bus during a Sunday afternoon operation conducted by Anti-Terrorism Police working in collaboration with their Special Operations Group (SOG) counterparts at the Sambaki Bridge roadblock while en route from Lamu.

Following the heinous murders in December 2019, Mustakima Ali and his associates initially sought refuge within Boni Forest. However, they were eventually flushed out by security forces and fled to a neighboring country.

In April 2023, three members of Mustakima Ali’s gang attempted to reenter Kenya but were intercepted and arrested along the Isiolo-Moyale highway while en route to Somalia. They were subsequently charged at the Kahawa Law Courts, and legal proceedings are ongoing. Despite the arrest of some accomplices, other suspects linked to the case remain at large but are under police surveillance.
