The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has officially refuted widespread rumors claiming that the English Language exam conducted on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, during the ongoing WASSCE for School Candidates, has been cancelled.
In a statement released on Tuesday, June 2, by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, WAEC clarified that the circulating press release suggesting a cancellation and rescheduling of the exam is fake and did not originate from the Council.
The statement reads:
“The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has been alerted to a fake press release making the rounds on various social media platforms. The false release, dated Friday, May 30, 2025, claims that the English Language paper written on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, has been cancelled and that a new date will be announced soon.
WAEC wishes to categorically state that this information is completely untrue and did not emanate from the Council. The English Language examination has not been cancelled.
While the source of this misinformation remains unclear, it is evident that the false report is being circulated by individuals intent on discrediting the Council and creating unnecessary panic among candidates and the general public.
We urge the public to disregard the rumor and rely only on information shared through WAEC’s official and verified social media handles and accredited media outlets. All legitimate press statements are issued and signed by the Council’s Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office.
WAEC appreciates the trust and confidence stakeholders have placed in the Council over the past seventy-three years. We remain committed to delivering quality and credible examination services to the Nigerian child.”
WAEC reiterated its dedication to transparency and innovation in conducting examinations and called on the public to remain vigilant against misinformation.
