The Oyo State Police Command has rescued 19 Ghanaian nationals—14 men and 5 women—believed to be victims of human trafficking in Ibadan.

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 6, the command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, revealed that the young victims were lured into Nigeria with false promises of employment opportunities.

Osifeso explained that the individuals fell victim to a deceptive scheme orchestrated by unidentified traffickers who exploited them for financial gain.

“Following credible intelligence about suspicious activities in a building located in the Kajorepo area of Akinyele Local Government, officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), supported by tactical teams, executed a search warrant on the premises,” Osifeso said.

The building, which was securely locked from the outside, was searched, leading to the rescue of all 19 Ghanaian nationals.

The victims have since been handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for further investigation and possible repatriation to Ghana in accordance with established protocols.

Osifeso reaffirmed the Oyo State Police Command’s commitment to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for what he described as a disturbing and exploitative crime.
