President Bola Tinubu has directed the nation’s Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to take immediate action in locating and apprehending those responsible for the recent wave of attacks and killings in Benue State.
The directive was issued during the President’s visit to the state on June 18, following renewed violence in the North-Central region.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting held at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, President Tinubu questioned the apparent lack of progress in the investigation.
“Police, I hope your men are alert and responding to intelligence. How come no arrest has been made? I expect that there should already be arrests of these criminals,” the President said.
Addressing Nigeria’s top military officials, Tinubu continued: “Christopher, you’ve contributed a lot—I watch your comments—but you cannot afford to be tired of staying in the bush. Oloyede, Air Marshal, we thank you, but we must stay vigilant. We must find these criminals and remove them.”
He also urged intelligence agencies to improve their operations: “DG NIA, DG SSS—retool your intelligence networks. We need actionable information to ensure this never happens again,” the President stated.
