Brad Pitt Speaks Out on Finalizing Divorce from Angelina Jolie After 8 Years

Brad Pitt has broken his silence on finalizing his protracted divorce from Angelina Jolie, bringing to a close one of Hollywood’s most public and complex breakups.

In a recent interview with *GQ*, the actor was asked whether he felt any relief when the divorce was officially settled in December 2024—over eight years after Jolie first filed in 2016. Pitt responded nonchalantly, “No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”

His comment comes six months after the legal process was concluded. Though Pitt and Jolie were declared legally single in 2019, the full settlement was only reached last December. The couple share six children: Maddox (23), Pax (21), Zahara (20), Shiloh (19), and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

At the time of the settlement, Jolie’s attorney commented, “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

According to court records, Jolie permanently waived any claim to spousal support from Pitt.

Despite the legal resolution, emotional tensions remain high within the family. Multiple reports suggest that Pitt is estranged from all six of his children. Several have reportedly distanced themselves from him, even going so far as to remove his last name. Last year, it was revealed that Shiloh had legally dropped “Pitt” from her surname—a decision said to have deeply hurt the actor. “He’s never felt more joy than when she was born,” a source shared. “He always wanted a daughter.”

Another insider added, “The reminders that he’s lost his children are incredibly painful for Brad. He loves them and misses them. It’s heartbreaking.”

The family’s estrangement largely stems from a 2016 incident on a private jet, where Pitt was accused of being verbally and physically abusive. In a 2020 Father’s Day post, son Pax reportedly called Pitt a “world-class a–hole,” alleging that his younger siblings were afraid of him.

While the legal battle has ended, the emotional scars in the Jolie-Pitt family remain, with little sign of reconciliation on the horizon.
