The Federal Government has listed a nearly 20-year-old Boeing 737‑700 Business Jet (BBJ) for sale, with the listing hosted by AMAC Aerospace in Basel, Switzerland.

According to Vanguard, sources within the Presidency revealed that after more than 19 years in service, the aircraft has become increasingly costly to maintain and has drawn safety concerns—particularly following a mechanical incident during an official trip to Saudi Arabia in April 2024.

Originally acquired in 2005 for $43 million during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the BBJ has now been put up for sale, months after President Bola Tinubu transitioned to using a refurbished Airbus A330-200 in August 2024.

Ahead of the sale, the aircraft underwent standard inspections and maintenance.

The Nigerian presidential air fleet—managed by the Nigerian Air Force in coordination with the Office of the National Security Adviser—currently comprises around 10 aircraft. These include several fixed-wing aircraft: a 13-year-old Gulfstream G550, a Gulfstream G500, two Dassault Falcon 7Xs, a Hawker 4000, and a Bombardier Challenger 605.

However, reports indicate that three of the seven fixed-wing aircraft are currently unserviceable.

The listing for the Boeing 737‑700 BBJ was also published on a U.S.-based aircraft sales platform.
