Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has dismissed circulating rumors about his alleged plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming his steadfast commitment to the party.
In a statement released on Saturday, July 5, Adeleke called the reports false and urged the public to disregard them.
“I want to assure the good people of Osun State and Nigerians at large that I remain a loyal member and the leader of the People’s Democratic Party in Osun State,” he declared.
Addressing the numerous inquiries he had received regarding the alleged defection, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to its development goals.
“My focus remains on delivering good governance and fulfilling our 5-point agenda for the people of Osun,” he said. “Please disregard the fake news and continue to support our mission for a better Osun State.”
The statement follows growing speculation that Adeleke might join a coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has recently attracted several opposition figures. There have also been persistent rumors of a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), all of which Adeleke has consistently denied.
With his term set to end in 2026, Adeleke is expected to seek re-election in the August 8 off-cycle governorship elections. Amid ongoing internal challenges and defections within the PDP, political analysts have speculated about his potential exploration of alternative platforms ahead of the polls.
