
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday to honor the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The announcement was made on Monday, July 14, by the Minister of Interior Affairs, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, following the approval of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
The minister explained that the holiday is a tribute to the late president’s dedicated service to the nation, his significant contributions to Nigeria’s democratic progress, and his lasting legacy in governance and national development.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday offers all Nigerians a chance to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he stood for,” the Minister stated.
He encouraged citizens to use the day to honor the late president’s memory by fostering peace, patriotism, and national unity, reflecting his vision for a prosperous and united Nigeria.
Additionally, as previously announced, national flags will fly at half-mast for a seven-day mourning period starting Sunday, July 13, 2025.
