Legendary Nigerian musician Sir Shina Peters grew emotional during a recent podcast interview on “The Honest Bunch,” where he reflected on his early life, career, and the current state of the music industry.

The veteran artist revealed that he began his music career at just 10 years old, became a father at 14, bought his first car at 13, and built his first house by the age of 16.

Despite facing several court cases as a teenager, Sir Shina said his passion for music and faith in God kept him going. He also highlighted his strong fanbase from the eastern part of Nigeria, noting that about 65% of his supporters are Igbos, not Yorubas.

“They kept asking me, ‘Give us another music, give us this,’” he shared.

Sir Shina expressed disappointment over how the music industry has evolved, saying that those who came after his generation have “bastardized” the foundation that artists like him worked hard to establish.

He added that he no longer feels motivated to go to the studio because the current environment is discouraging and urged Nigerians to prioritize fixing the country instead.
