ICPC apprehends alleged vote buyers and seizes N4.1 million in connection with the Imo election.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) disclosed the arrest of six individuals for suspected vote-buying during the Imo state governorship election held on Saturday, November 11. The ICPC, in a statement on Sunday, November 12, revealed the recovery of N4.1 million in cash from the apprehended suspects who were allegedly engaged in illicit activities at various polling units, namely Orji Mechanic Village (PU 008), Concord Hotel (PU 009), Rento Hotel (PU 010), Township School (PU 005, 007, 008), and Ojukwu Library. Among the seized items were a notebook containing names and phone numbers, as well as a detailed list with voters’ information. The ICPC stated:

“Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have arrested 6 persons during the election exercise in Imo State. The suspects were arrested at 7 polling units at Orji Mechanic Village (PU 008), Concord Hotel (PU 009), Rento Hotel (PU 010), Township School (PU 005, 007, 008) and Ojukwu Library, and a total of N4,101,750 was recovered from them. Also recovered from one of the suspects was a notebook containing names and telephone numbers and from another, a long list with voters’ information. All the suspects were taken into custody, profiled, and had their statements taken under caution. They have since been released on bail even as investigations continue.”
