‘Only fools believe I’m working for Tinubu’ — Kwankwaso

Former Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has denied claims that he is secretly working for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Global TV, Kwankwaso said speculation about a political alliance between him and Tinubu has persisted for years, including during his time in government.

The allegation was recently raised by Sanusi Bature, who claimed Kwankwaso’s political actions would ultimately benefit Tinubu.

Reacting to the accusation, Kwankwaso dismissed the claims, insisting he is focused solely on his political movement.

“I think only foolish people would believe that. We are not working for anybody. We are only working for NDC,” he said.

Kwankwaso, however, acknowledged his long-standing personal relationship with the president.

“Bola Tinubu has been my senior brother and good friend up till now. But that does not mean we will merge our political ideologies with his. He is pursuing his agenda while I am pursuing mine,” he stated.

The former Kano governor also argued that President Tinubu may not fully understand the level of hardship in the country because, according to him, people around the president are shielding him from reality.

“Under the current circumstances, the president may not see what is truly happening. Unfortunately, many of those around him are part of the problem,” Kwankwaso said.

“In that kind of situation, it becomes difficult for anyone to advise him properly or tell him the true state of affairs.”

Kwankwaso further defended his support for Peter Obi, describing him as the most suitable candidate from Southern Nigeria at the time.

“When we joined the NDC, we invited leaders from all six geo-political zones to deliberate on the situation in the country. We agreed to work together as one family,” he explained.

“The party later decided to zone the presidential ticket to the South, and after careful consideration across the regions, we concluded that Peter Obi was the best candidate at that time.”
