Suspected Fulani militant groups launched coordinated attacks on two communities in Plateau State on Friday, May 23, 2025, leaving three people dead, including a retired police officer.
The attacks occurred in Farin-Lamba, located in Jos South Local Government Area, and Dahot village in the Wereng Community of Riyom Local Government Area. The President of the Berom Youths Moulder Association, Solomon Mwantiri, confirmed the incidents in a statement released by the group’s Secretary General, Bature Adazaram.
According to the statement, the victims of the Farin-Lamba attack include Ayuba Bako, a retired police officer, and 27-year-old James Bulus Kwanga. In Dahot village, 23-year-old Ishaya Davou Bature was also killed.
The attackers reportedly used a Peugeot 406 vehicle and approached the communities via footpaths, carefully positioning themselves before launching the assault.
“In another tragic development, armed bandits suspected to be Fulani militants struck Farin-Lamba in Jos South and Dahot village in the Wereng Community of Riyom LGA at approximately 9:00 p.m. on May 23, 2025. Two people were killed in Farin-Lamba and one in Dahot,” the statement read.
The group condemned the repeated attacks, which they say are often timed around the rainy and festive seasons, warning that these incidents continue to erode national security.
The Berom Youths Moulder Association called on government authorities to take urgent and decisive action to address the growing insecurity or grant communities the right to defend themselves against such threats.
The group also raised concerns about a prior, unrelated security alert issued to nearby villages—Jol, Rim, and Bachi—which may have been used as a distraction to enable the surprise attacks on Farin-Lamba and Dahot.
“These and similar patterns are common tactics used by the assailants, particularly during the rainy season and festive periods, further weakening the fabric of national security,” the statement concluded.
