Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has announced that she will resume her duties in the Senate on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, July 19, during a training programme in her hometown of Ihima, Kogi State, Senator Natasha stated that her decision is based on a valid court order. She confirmed that she has sent a follow-up letter to the Senate, notifying them of her intention to return.
This follows an earlier letter dated July 11, addressed to the Clerk of the National Assembly by her legal counsel, Michael Numa. The letter urged the Senate to comply with the ruling of Justice Binta Nyako, which declared Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension as excessive, unconstitutional, and a violation of her constituents’ right to representation.
Her attempt to resume last week was stalled due to the unavailability of the certified true copy of the court judgment.
Meanwhile, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed an appeal against the ruling. In a notice of appeal dated July 14, 2025, submitted to the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, Akpabio is seeking to overturn the Federal High Court’s July 4 judgment that ordered Akpoti-Uduaghan’s reinstatement.
