On Monday, October 6, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the possibility of a Gaza peace deal, saying he was “pretty sure” an agreement could be reached. He noted that Hamas was agreeing to “very important” issues as indirect talks with Israel began in Egypt under his proposed 20-point plan.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump emphasized his red lines in the negotiations: “I have red lines, if certain things aren’t met we’re not going to do it.” When asked if disarmament was a precondition for Hamas, he responded, “But I think we’re doing very well and I think Hamas has been agreeing to things that are very important.”
Trump expressed strong confidence in reaching a final agreement, saying, “I think we’re going to have a deal. It’s a hard thing for me to say that when for years and years they’ve been trying to have a deal.”
“We’re going to have a Gaza deal, I’m pretty sure, yeah,” he added.
He also dismissed reports suggesting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was skeptical about the talks, stating that Netanyahu had been “very positive about the deal.”
