President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted his approval for the swift dissolution of the governing boards overseeing federal government parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies.
In a recent move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made the decision to retire all service chiefs and appoint their successors. Shortly thereafter, the President has now approved the dissolution of the governing boards of various federal government parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies. This development was conveyed through a statement issued by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information, on behalf of George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. It should be noted that the dissolution does not impact the Boards, Commissions, and Councils listed in the Third Schedule, Part 1, Section 153 (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
In light of these developments, and until new boards are constituted, the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the various parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies have been instructed to direct any matters requiring board attention to the President. They are to do so through the Permanent Secretaries of their respective supervisory ministries and offices.
Furthermore, Permanent Secretaries are directed to forward such correspondences to the President via the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. It is essential that all ministries, departments, and agencies adhere to the provisions of this directive, which came into effect on Friday, June 16, 2023.
The Permanent Secretaries are specifically instructed to inform the CEOs of the affected agencies under the supervision of their respective ministries/offices, ensuring their immediate compliance with this directive.
