Operatives of the Gombe State Police Command have arrested four suspected kidnappers and rescued an eight-year-old boy who was abducted in Akko Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

According to the statement, the victim’s father, Alhaji Muhammadu Nabadara, reported the incident to the Akko Divisional Police Headquarters on June 28 after his son left home the previous day and failed to return.

Police detectives immediately launched an investigation and intensified efforts to locate the missing child.

The statement said the family received a telephone call on June 29 claiming to reveal the boy’s whereabouts, but the information was later found to be false.

A breakthrough came on June 30 when intelligence-led operations led officers to arrest the first suspect, identified as Abdullahi Mohammed, from Jauro Musa Quarters in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area.

According to the police, Mohammed confessed during interrogation that he conspired with three others—Mohammed Magaji, 35; Sale Sale, 23; and 18-year-old Walida Ya’u, all residents of Kagarawal Quarters in Gombe—to abduct the child.

The remaining three suspects were subsequently arrested, while the victim was found in their custody and rescued unharmed.

The boy has since been reunited with his family, while investigations continue. The police said the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, praised their professionalism, diligence and swift response.

He also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
