Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has reiterated that he remains a member of the Labour Party despite his association with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking at a rally marking the launch of the Labour Party’s governorship campaign ahead of the upcoming state election, the former Anambra State governor clarified his position on the coalition involving the ADC. He explained that opposition leaders, including himself, have formed a coalition centered around the ADC as a strategic platform for the 2027 general elections.
“I want to start by addressing some confusion that has been circulating. People have been saying, ‘Obi is in the ADC and also in the Labour Party.’ Let me make this clear: I, along with the Labour Party’s National Assembly members, are part of the coalition that has adopted the ADC as the vehicle for the 2027 elections. Other parties will join us in this coalition.
However, today, we remain members of the Labour Party. So if anyone asks which party I belong to right now, tell them Peter Obi is in the Labour Party. If they ask about the coalition, yes, it is for 2027,” Obi stated.
Obi also announced his intention to run for president again, emphasizing his qualifications and readiness for the race.
“Everyone has the right to run for president—I won’t stop anyone. But if anyone asks, let them know I am in the race, and no one does it better than me.
That’s why we are here today—to officially kick off the campaign of the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Anambra State, Dr. George Moghalu.
Our candidate is soft-spoken, focused, and an achiever. He is a highly marketable choice, and I am confident that with him as our flagbearer, good governance and people-centered leadership are guaranteed,” Obi concluded.
