“JAMB: Candidates Can Take Exams at Any Location Across Nigeria”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that candidates are free to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at any location in Nigeria, regardless of where they registered.

This clarification follows a misleading report suggesting that candidates must sit for the exam within their state of registration.

In a statement released on Wednesday, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, dismissed the report as inaccurate and urged the public to disregard it.

“In a recent interview with a NAN reporter, I made it clear that candidates are not restricted to writing the UTME in their state of registration. They can register anywhere and choose any examination town across the country,” Benjamin said.

He explained that JAMB’s Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres are organized by towns for logistical ease, and candidates are assigned to centres within the town they select during registration.

“For example, if a candidate chooses Garki as their exam town, they must take the exam there—not in another town, as is sometimes wrongly assumed. However, they can select any town nationwide, regardless of where they registered,” he clarified.

Benjamin emphasized that the flexibility is intended to accommodate candidates’ preferences and ensure convenience.

“A candidate can register in Lagos and still take the exam in Sokoto or anywhere else in Nigeria. The choice is theirs,” he added.

He urged candidates and the general public to disregard the false report and rely on official JAMB channels for accurate information.
