Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayoleyi Solomon, popularly known as Reekado Banks, has opened up about his decision to leave Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, describing it as “premature.”

In a recent interview snippet shared on Instagram by Echo Room Podcast on Tuesday, the singer explained that there was no conflict behind his exit. Rather, he was young and eager to carve out his own path.

“It wasn’t a conflict situation. I was pretty young and very focused on what I wanted to do. I wanted to leave. My contract had actually ended two years earlier—I signed a three-year deal but stayed on for five years total. When the time came, I thought I was ready,” he said.

However, Reekado admitted he soon realized the decision was rushed.

“You know, I thought I could do it then, so I just set off on the journey. Many people would say it was premature, and once I jumped in, I realized just how premature it really was,” he added.

When asked about the best advice he ever received from Don Jazzy, Reekado recalled a lighthearted but meaningful moment: “It wasn’t really advice. He just said, ‘I’m not going to beat you.’ Nobody go beat me.”

Reekado Banks officially left Mavin Records in 2018, emphasizing that the split was amicable and filled with gratitude. He praised Don Jazzy for providing a platform that helped shape his career.
