The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has said it intends to continue its military campaign against Iran for at least three more weeks as tensions between the two countries continue to rise in the Middle East.

The Israeli military said thousands of targets remain as it intensifies operations aimed at weakening Iran’s military infrastructure and capabilities.

Speaking to CNN on Sunday, IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin said the military already has long-term operational plans in place.

“We have thousands of targets ahead,” Defrin said. “We are ready, in coordination with our US allies, with plans through at least the Jewish holiday of Passover, about three weeks from now. And we have deeper plans even beyond that.”

According to the IDF, since the start of the Iran campaign on February 28, the Israeli Air Force has carried out about 400 waves of strikes in western and central Iran. The operations have focused on dismantling key infrastructure and targeting personnel involved in Iran’s military, defence and weapons production units.

Israeli officials said the United States and Israel have already struck thousands of targets since the conflict began, marking one of the most intense periods of confrontation between the two countries in recent years.

Defrin noted that the campaign is not being conducted under strict time pressure but is focused on achieving strategic objectives.

“We are not working according to a stopwatch or a timetable, but rather to achieve our goals,” he said.

He added that Israel’s primary aim is to significantly weaken the Iranian government and its military capabilities, amid growing concerns that the conflict could spread further across the region.
