Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered suspected remains of a slain military couple after dismantling a camp linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network in Imo State.

The operation was carried out on Thursday, April 24, along the Ubaha Orsu axis in Orsu Local Government Area, according to a statement issued by the Army.
Troops from the 82 Division launched the intelligence-driven mission to clear suspected IPOB/ESN hideouts and locate the remains of Master Warrant Officer Linus Musa Audu and Private Gloria Mathew, who were abducted and killed in May 2022 while travelling for their traditional wedding.
During the operation, soldiers advancing on the camp reportedly came under heavy attack from armed fighters but successfully repelled multiple ambushes, forcing the attackers to retreat.
Following the clearance of the area, troops discovered several shallow graves. Excavations led to the recovery of suspected human remains believed to be those of the slain personnel.
The Army said the remains have been secured for forensic examination, including DNA testing, to confirm their identities. Authorities are also working with the families of the victims to ensure proper identification and arrange dignified burials.
The military described the mission as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the South-East, adding that operations will continue until lasting peace is restored in the region.
