Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 7 Division Garrison, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected impostor accused of posing as a soldier to rob residents in the Shuwari area of Maiduguri, Borno State.

The suspect, identified as Abdulazeez Mohammed, was arrested at about 2:00 p.m. on July 1, 2026, following credible intelligence reports about his alleged criminal activities in the Shuwari General Area.

Security sources disclosed on Monday, July 6, that Mohammed allegedly wore military camouflage to deceive residents into believing he was a serving soldier before stealing mobile phones and other valuables from homes.

Acting on the intelligence, troops of the 7 Division Garrison, supported by CJTF operatives, swiftly moved to the area and apprehended the suspect without resistance.

He is currently being held in military custody while investigators work to determine the full extent of his alleged activities and whether he is connected to a wider criminal network.

Security authorities have urged members of the public to remain alert and promptly report anyone suspected of illegally wearing military uniforms or engaging in suspicious activities, stressing that impersonating personnel of the Armed Forces is a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
