The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to members considering defection, vowing to take decisive action against those undermining the party from within.

Speaking after the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, July 2, Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum emphasized the PDP’s unity and readiness for the 2027 general elections.

“We are drawing a line for those going out to demarket the party. We are watching, and at the right time, we will act,” Damagum warned.

Standing alongside other NWC members, he dismissed fears of internal divisions, asserting that the party remains resilient despite external pressures. He called on members to remain loyal and resist manipulation.

Damagum also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to destabilize the PDP by using intimidation and inducements to lure its members.

“To the APC: continue your harassment and enticements if you wish, but know this — the 2027 elections will be decided by Nigerians, not by political tricks,” he said.

He criticized the APC-led government’s handling of national issues, including hunger, insecurity, and the arbitrary treatment of citizens. “These issues are overwhelming and unacceptable. It’s time for serious reflection and change,” he added.

Reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to democratic principles, Damagum described the party as people-oriented, inclusive, and structured to withstand political turbulence.

“We are not a conquered people. We believe in democracy, and our voices must be heard,” he said.

Calling on members to be proud ambassadors of the party, Damagum acknowledged that some might be tempted to leave but expressed confidence they would return.

“There’s no party as accommodating as the PDP. If they leave, I wish them well — but I believe many will find their way back,” he said.

The PDP’s next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is scheduled for July 23–25, with the 2027 election strategy expected to top the agenda.
