Iraq has formally lodged a complaint with the United Nations Security Council, accusing Israel of violating its airspace during a recent large-scale attack on Iran, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced on Friday, June 13.
“These actions represent a blatant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty,” the ministry stated, urging the Security Council to “assume its responsibilities” and take measures to “prevent further such violations.”
On the same day, three missiles were discovered in Iraq—one unexploded in Diyala province and two others in Dhi Qar, where they left a crater approximately four meters (13 feet) deep, according to security sources.
The Iraqi government condemned what it described as “military aggression” by Israel, calling it a “clear breach of international law.”
Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, the highest Shiite religious authority in Iraq, also strongly denounced the attack, referring to it as “a crime committed by the entity occupying Palestine.” He urged the international community to hold Israel and its allies accountable and to prevent future acts of aggression.
